Lot 11: UPE-02 Upe – The Tortoise
This constellation references the Jabuti, or the red-foot tortoise, very common in Brazil and native from northern South America. The jabuti is a friendly image from many Brazilians' childhood, and they were common pets among kids in the countryside. The tortoise figure was observed by the Bororo people, an Indigenous group that lives in many locations, including the Cerrado, Brazil. The word "Bororo" means, in their native language, "village patio" – a reference to the traditional circular arrangement of Bororo's houses, making the center of the village the main ritual place.
